The Story
“When I had to implement my first project with support for multiple languages, we all underestimated the need for professional translation management. I had to manage a project with 16 different languages and more than 1200 single labels. Instead of planned 2 hrs. management time per language, I finally needed more than twice as long.”
“This work included to copy translations to Excel and copy the translations back to mrTranslate. One very big problem was, that many translations had wrong or missing HTML tags or placeholders. So I had to check and correct all 1200 labels in every language. Although I invested more than a week for this task, the following test phase still showed us many problems with translated placeholders, etc. With this very bad experience, we decided to create 2×4 Translate.”
The Solution
The difference to other translation tools is, that 2×4 Translate was designed for managing the whole process. With the assumption, that translators usually work with Excel Files, all Project Managers can use 2×4 Translate to get better results in a faster way.
Step 1: Export Metadata to Excel
- Add languages
- Handle all or just missing labels
- Create HTML helper texts
- Create PDF previews with applied HTML formattings
- Preset labels from Translation database
- Create one Excel file per language, or one for all
- Send files to registered translators
Step 2: Translator‘s work
- Translators work with Excel to add texts in the right column
- Only missing translations are available by default (saves translation costs)
- All HTML and Placeholders are marked in red color and optionally predefined in all languages
- Labels which were found in the translation database are optionally not exported (saves translation costs)
- Translators can sort the table, if they want
Step 3: Import XLS to MDD
- One or many Languages can be imported
- Powerful checks for
- Wrong or different HTML code
- Accidently translated placeholders
