Learn Flash Lesson 5 : Upload the files to the server

A while back Kevin mentioned that we might have issues when trying to upload our surveys into our Interviewer Server. As promised we checked what we had done to see if anything strange would happen that we did not expect. This article describes the process that we used to get our Lesson 3 activated on a server.

In lesson 3 we created the following metadata

Metadata(en-AU, Question, Label)
Q1_Answer "Please enter your Answer"
    text;
   Q1 "Please select one item that you own."
    categorical [1..1]
    {
        Car "Car",
        Boat "Boat",
        House "House",
        Dog "Dog",
        Cat "Cat"
    };
End Metadata

routing,

Routing(Web)
Q1_Answer.LayoutTemplate = "Flash.html"
Q1_Answer.ask()
Q1 = CCategorical(Q1_Answer)
Q1.Show()
End Routing

We had a Flash.html file which was setup to show the flash object we had created , we have modified that template slightly so that it can me used on a server. It now looks like this.

  My first Dimensions Template

http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=10,0,0,0"
    width="550"
 height="400"
    id="FlashLesson3"
    align="middle">

 http://[SERVERNAME]/FlashLesson3.swf" />

  http://[SERVERNAME]/FlashLesson3.swf"
                 quality="high"
                 bgcolor="#ffffff"
                 width="550"
                 height="400"
                 name="FlashLesson3"
                 align="middle"
                 allowScriptAccess="always"
                 allowFullScreen="false"
                 type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
                 pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer" />

you will see that we have just changed two bits the

http://[SERVERNAME]/FlashLesson3.swf" />

and

http://[SERVERNAME]/FlashLesson3.swf"

before these referenced the files on the drive of our laptop and now they will need to reference the files on the server. In this example we just copied the files up into the c:inetpubwwroot directory of the server and then specified the url to get to them.

Once we had made these changes we activated the job and when presented with the link , we clicked on it and all was fine we could see the object. Now We believe that we did not hit a problem because of the two parameters

and

        allowScriptAccess="always"

We belive these attributes have been added to get around the issues that Kevin mentioned. Anyway, if you have any issues then let us know and we will see if we can resolve them for you.
